CAHPI-ALBERTA Welcome to our website Welcome to the Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI-Alberta) website. Here you can learn about CAHPI and our role in the Home Inspection profession in Alberta. CAHPI-Alberta is an organization of individual Home Inspectors whose mandate is to support and regulate the Home Inspection profession in Alberta. Members who have met all of our requirements for education and experience may earn the designation of "Registered Home Inspector" or RHI. CAHPI-Alberta, and the other Provincial and Regional CAHPI Organizations across Canada, are members of CAHPI National ("Useful Links"). Here we often refer to CAHPI-Alberta simply as CAHPI. You can learn more about CAHPI and its history on our "About CAHPI" page. Who is a Registered Home Inspector In Alberta, only full members of CAHPI, may hold the RHI designation. To become a full member of CAHPI requires extensive training and experience. Members begin as "Applicants" (who come from a variety of technical backgrounds including those with prior inspection experience), then when they have completed the education and exams they become "Associate Inspectors". A "Registered Home Inspector" has completed all of these requirements plus has conducted at least 250 professional Home Inspections. All Members are required to keep their knowledge current through ongoing education and attendance at seminars. Find more details on our "Become an Inspector" page. Home Inspections - Standards of Practice CAHPI Members inspect and report according to our "Standards of Practice" and "Code of Ethics". These Standards describe a Home Inspection as a visual inspection of the systems and components of a home that are accessible to the inspector. The Standards define in detail what we inspect and what we don't, and how we report our findings. To learn more view a copy of our "Standards of Practice" and "Code of Ethics" in PDF format. (If you are unable to open these files follow the link we have provided for Adobe Acrobat on our "Home" page.) How to Arrange a Home Inspection To arrange a Home Inspection you should contact one of our Members. An Inspection can usually be booked within a few days after you call, but it is best not to wait until the last minute. To find a qualified Home Inspector take a look at our "Find an Inspector" page.
