ABOUT CAHPI-ALBERTA

President's Message

Thank you for connecting with Alberta’s Premiere Home Inspection Organization, CAHPI (Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (Alberta)).   For the past 16 years CAHPI (Alberta) have been serving the whole Province with expert opinion and advice when individual potential homeowners or investors wish to purchase a home.   CAHPI (Alberta) currently have just under 200 members and are not only the largest and most professional Home Inspection Organization in Alberta but have in place an excellent education program which all individuals must proceed whether their background is tradesperson or Professional Engineer.

Our highest accolade offered is Registered Home Inspector (RHI) – this award is obtained only after extensive training, numerous examinations completed successfully, and lengthy hands-on experience, followed by complete testing by their peers.   In addition we have introduced the qualification, National Certificate Holder, which will allow individual inspectors to work in all provinces across Canada.

Members of CAHPI (Alberta) take enormous pride in offering a superb inspection service.   We understand that purchasers and sometimes sellers demand the very best in our profession.   Individual Inspectors work for you through  various companies, and the charge for their professional services vary from company to company, and in accordance with the Competition Act of Canada has no relation to qualification or length of experience.   This is democracy and business hard at work for you!!!

All members subscribe to our Standards of Practice and follow a strict Code of Ethics put in place to protect and assist our clients

We do recommend that you employ a CAHPI (Alberta) member for that important Inspection;   make sure he holds the RHI qualification, and is able to display to you that Errors & Omissions Insurance coverage is held by the Individual Inspector

If you ensure that your Inspector comes within the three confines of the last paragraph you will be able to rest assured that you have sought and obtained the very best in Home Inspections.   We are recognized by the Federal Government, their agents including CMHC, the Alberta Provincial Government, the Canadian Real Estate Association and all Real Estate Boards and Associations throughout Alberta.

I commend all our members to you and wish you much happiness wherever you seek to obtain a home in Alberta.

Yours Sincerely

BILL BAIRD RHI, National Certificate Holder

The History of CAHPI-Alberta

In the Spring of 1992, a group of home inspectors from Alberta and Saskatchewan met at the invitation of Peter Salmon of Calgary to discuss the profession of home inspection with the view of forming an association of professional home inspectors. The meeting was attended by twenty-five interested individuals, and it was concluded that an association would be beneficial both to the public and to the inspection profession.

In January of 1993, the Prairies organization officially achieved chapter status with the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). On March 3, 1993, the Canadian Association of Home Inspectors (Prairies Chapter) was registered under the Societies Act in Alberta with a complete set of by-laws. In October of 1996, CAHI and American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) developed an agreement whereby CAHI was its own organization, not a chapter of ASHI. The agreement positively reflects the cooperation between ASHI and CAHI.

In March, 1998, as a result of the formation of CAHI Saskatchewan and CAHI Manitoba, CAHI Prairies changed its name to CAHI Alberta to reflect the province it serves.

In April, 2002, CAHI Alberta changed its name to the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors - Alberta (CAHPI - Alberta). This was done to align our association with the national association, which is now named the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors.

CAHPI Alberta is one of seven provincial and regional associations who are members of CAHPI National.
